Brand New Salvation Army Thrift Store in the OC

Ribbon Cutting at the new Fountain Valley, CA Thrift Store

The new Fountain Valley Thrift Store, chock full of great finds and buys, was ready for its close up this morning!

The Salvation Army opened it’s sixth store in Orange County, California with a ribbon cutting by the Mayor pro-tem and city council members, Salvation Army brass from the headquarters office and thrift stores around the area, and a line up of more than 60 shoppers waiting for the 9 o’clock opening.

Our new Territorial Commander Commissioner Jim Knaggs told the crowd that in his world travels for The Salvation Army, he’d never seen a better looking store. Though I’ve seen far fewer of our stores, I couldn’t agree more! The well-designed layout, beautiful shelves and fixtures, helpful signs and good store lighting all contribute to an easy, comfortable shopping experience.

Signs placed around the store reminded shoppers of The Salvation Army’s ministry. In big letters one sign said “SAVE” and just below it in smaller letters, “more than just money.” Another one said, “FREE someone from the bonds of addiction.” My favorite is, “BUY someone a second chance.”

The store featured racks of clothing, shoes, accessories, glassware, books, electronics, bric-a-brac, specialty items and so much more. On a 90 degree day like today, I couldn’t help but think that the dozens of furs may not sell right away, but just give it time!

And, by 9:30 am, five people had already used the convenient donation drop off behind the store. There’s a bell out back where donors can call someone to the dock to help unload their donation and give them a receipt.

The store is located near the corner of Brookhurst and Edinger, off the 22 freeway in Orange County, California. Drop by and see it! And, while you’re there buy something for yourself or a loved one with the confidence of knowing that your purchase is helping The Salvation Army provide no-cost drug and alcohol rehabilitation to people who desperately need it.
