The Salvation Army and Back to School go together. Companies, service clubs, churches and groups of all types collect school supplies for us all summer in order to make sure at-risk kids start the school year off right.

But did you know that we’re involved in Back to School in another exciting way?

Our College for Officer Training begins a new school year in September too. New students – we call them cadets – move into our campus housing with their families to take part in our two-year seminary school which prepares them for Salvation Army officership.

The two-year program confers an Associates Degree and a Lieutenant’s commission. And at the conclusion of those two years, newly-minted Lieutenants are appointed pastors or associates in a Salvation Army church or administrators in one of our drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs.

In preparation for an official welcome event this weekend, our staff photographer John Docter took some great shots of families moving into the housing on our Southern California campus, called Crestmont College.

Please enjoy these sweet photos and be praying for the men, women and kids who will call Crestmont home for the next two years as they prepare to take God’s word to people in need across the Western US.
