Dress rehearsals are underway for the Rose Parade on New Years Day!

Only four marching bands are guaranteed a spot in the lineup of the Tournament of Roses Parade, held annually on New Years Day: The Salvation Army, Pasadena Community College, the U.S. Marine Corps, and the Los Angeles Unified School District All District High School Honor Band.

In addition to having one of the coveted spots, The Salvation Army has the longest-serving band in the parade’s history. Ninety-five years!

This year, band members from the Army in Pasadena are joined by two young musicians from each of our 40 divisions around the United States as well as a guest band from Southern Australia.

Look for The Salvation Army band members – dressed in red “festival tunics” – at position 32 out of 89 total parade participants.

My colleague John Docter attended a recent dress rehearsal and took these beautiful images of the band practicing parade music. Click on the white arrow to view the images.

When The Salvation Army’s Tournament of Roses Band reaches the viewing stand you’ll hear them play “Stand Up for Jesus” as a testimony to the Army’s mission to preach the Gospel around the world.

Happy New year!

Hi Peggy! I can try to find out and let you know. Stay tuned!

What other songs did this band play? I was watching the parade from 385 E. Colorado Blvd. and I heard a contemporary Christian song, but for the life of me I can’t remember which song it was. I’ve been wracking my brain since then, with no luck.

    Hi Jeanie

There should be a frame just above the last paragraph where you can see the photos. There’s an arrow in the center of the cover photo to get it started and arrows at each side so you can move through the album.

I’ve tested it on two different browsers and it’s working so I hope you can see it!

Can not find the white arrow to see the pics. Am I missing something?
My son is part of the band this year and I would love to see! :)
