Every year we’re blown away by how radically generous people are with their neighbors in need at Christmas. Just yesterday we heard about a Chicago couple who had their dream Christmas-themed wedding. But not only do they get to spend the rest of their lives together, they celebrated their union by asking their guests show their love to others.
Folks like me in The Salvation Army world woke up to a sweet surprise today. The Orange County Register newspaper ran a column about a yearly brand survey that rates local organizations in 10 categories. The 2014 Orange County Most Trustworthy Brands award is a co-production of advertising and communications firm DGWB, Cal State Fullerton and OC Metro magazine.
Is there a better day than National Donut Day? Maybe Christmas. Or my birthday perhaps. In support of the 75th anniversary of National Donut Day on June 1, Entemann’s will give $1 dollar (up to $25,000) to The Salvation Army for every “like” on their Facebook page from now until June 23!
This week Major Pamela Gardner received an unexpected phone call. The voice on the other end of the line was a woman who’d donated through the mail to the Army in Concord. On the remittance form she filled out to enclose with her check she had marked the box requesting prayer and said, “cure my cancer.”
Rachel Ousley, of Montana’s ABC 5 did a three minute story yesterday about a special gal who’s always on hand to help out during times of crisis or disaster. She gets invited to some of the most intimate gatherings of firefighters, police personnel and other first responders because they know she can be trusted to come ready to serve hot coffee, nutritious meals and a warm smile.
Luke Rocheleau is a filmmaker and a Salvationist. Recently, he had the pleasure of working with Sean Astin on a Lifetime Channel film called “Adopting Terror.”

And now they’re leading the pack, having opened the first official online thrift operation on eBay in October, 2011! It’s called The Salvation Army Northern Virginia Adult Rehabilitation Center store!
