Every year our National Headquarters staff picks their favorite photos of the year and posts them to their blog on December 31st. Each of the photos chosen this year were snapped by my colleague John Docter! Our legendary Christmas programs include a number of ways for do gooders to care for kids whose families can’t afford Christmas. But did you know that there are several programs which provide Christmas cheer for senior citizens who have few people in their lives left to care for their needs this time of year?

This Sunday November 16, Uplifting Television Entertainment (also called UPTV) will broadcast an original movie called “Paper Angels” which stars Matthew Settle from TV’s “Gossip Girl” and Josie Bissett, star of “Melrose Place”.
Unless you live in Seattle, you probably haven’t seen The Salvation Army latest advertising campaign. Instead of billboards, bus bench signs and mall kiosks asking you to financially support people struggling with hunger, addiction or homelessness, the ads are targeted specifically to people in crisis.
After Alexandra moved to the US from the Czech Republic with her husband and daughter Sofia, things started to go bad between them. He was verbally abusive and told Alexandra that she couldn’t make it on her own. With The Salvation Army’s help, she did.
Every day that the Ebola crisis continues to make news, I’m sure you feel as I do and pray for a permanent solution. Until that time comes, I’m grateful that our Army is also there offering its help in the form of sanitation supplies to medical facilities, food relief to affected families and even operating its mobile clinic.
